could be the common problem with the solder on the 32 pin connector on the back of the instrument console. there are youtube videos about how to dismantle it and resolder. or companies you can send the instrument cluster to for resoldering. It might not be that but it sounds like it could be. 1.

Unfortunately, that is the common cluster fault. The solder on the main connector needs re-soldering as they get dry joints and the vehicle looses comms with the modules on the car. Plenty of places offer a repair and return service (check eBay, search Focus MK2 cluster repair) it'll cost you about £50-60 qaSFldy.
